The Chamber is committed to providing resources for our local business community. At the March chamber meeting, chamber member Christine Malafi, Senior Partner at Campolo, Middleton and McCormick, LLP (CMM), a premier law firm with offices in Westbury, Ronkonkoma, and Bridgehampton, spoke on “What the New York State Sexual Harassment Law Mean for Businesses.” New York State now mandates sexual harassment training for all employees as well as written policies at all places of employment.
As a service to the local business community, the Chamber will sponsor two sexual harassment training workshops for employees of member and non-member companies, presented by Christine Malafi, that will meet New York State requirements at the reasonable rate of $15 person for Chamber members and $25 for non-members. Providing resources and information on issues that impact business and not-for-profits is one of the many benefits of membership.
Employers should be aware that to fully comply, in addition to training, employers must comply with all the new New York State Sexual Harassment Laws, including having a written sexual harassment policy. As an added benefit, the Chamber has secured reduced rates from CMM for members who elect to have the firm review or draft the member’s sexual harassment policy. The Chamber has also secured reduced rates for members who wish to obtain manager-specific training from CMM on management issues including how to properly investigate sexual harassment claims, reporting procedures to put in place, and more requirements to comply with the new state laws.
Christine Malafi has advised countless Long Island businesses on sexual harassment prevention policies and training. Please join us to bring your business into compliance with the new law. |
